Hack the Avast Secure Browser
« on: April 04, 2021, 06:30:04 PM »
Hi Guys,

As you maybe know Avast Secure Browser's ad- and tracking blocking is based on Ublock Origin.
But do you know you can configure it from the settings as well ?

Here is how you do it :

- Click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner : Customize and control Avast Secure Browser.
- Choose : Extensions > Avast Anti Tracking > Details > Extension options.

And you can configure ad- and tracking blocking to your needs.

Greetz, Red.

According to Avast,
Avast Anti-Tracking is powered by uBlock Origin.
I'm not sure if their ad block is also based on uBlock.
Since there currently seems to be a problem with the AdBlock feature,
I simply installed the uBlock Origin extension.

uBlock origin works, the Avast AdBlocker does not.
Avast needs to find out why or, changeover to pure uBlock Origin.

It is remarkable that Adblock works properly in bank mode.
OS: Windows 10 Home
Soft: Avast Premium Security  / Avast Cleanup / Malwarebytes Premium

When I went to check Adblock setting, I found Adblock was off. I had not turned it off. Others have repoted this. Now my turn.
Bob has a good point that Ublock origin does work and ASB Adblock does not.

NB:

uBlock does not equal uBlock Origin.

Edit: According to https://blog.avast.com/what-is-adblock-avast

...we have a built-in adblock using the uBlock technology...
