Ransomware Shield breaking screenshots
« on: April 24, 2021, 09:04:20 PM »
I can not create any screenshots in my Guild Wars 2 game because of this Ransomware Shield. If I disable Avast the game works fine. I have tried creating exceptions, but no game paths I enter work. I have searched for a solution, but it seems a lot of people are in the same boat. Please help as I do not want to have to use a different AV.|

UPDATE: Path exceptions do not resolve this issue. WHat does resolve it is to allow the app. In this example for Guild Wars 2 screenshot exception or even the whole game folder does nothing, but if you click on the block / allow apps option in Ransomeware settings, and just look for your game, and add it. It will take care of the issue, but at the expense of not having protaction on that game. smh. Looks like I may have to look into getting a different AV after many many years of having Avast.

How do you know it is the Ransomware Shield making the detection (screenshot might help) ?

Why not just disable the ransomware shield and not the full Avast Antivirus (guessing as you don't give details).

The ransomware shield protects certain common folders for images, etc.  Try having those screen captures sent to a unique folder and or modify the shields settings (see attached image).

I haven't got the Ransomware Shield component installed as I do my own protection of images/data (off-line backups to external drive)

I know it's ransomware because when I disable ransomeware only, the issue goes away.
