Spyware Pop Ups
« on: February 14, 2007, 02:45:46 PM »
I purchased Avast last night Profession Edition and have it installed on my computer, however I keep getting the Spyware Pop Ups for other companies telling me I have a Spyware Virus and to update with them and they are locking up my computer.  Doesn't Avast have Spyware and How can I get these Pop Ups to go away?  Do I need to do a high pop up blocker on my browser?  Please help.  Thanks!!

Hi kris2765,

What "other companies" exactly? There are many scam anti-spyware products out there which claim to have found spyware and then ask for money. Sometimes there is no spyware except the scam program itself.

I would suggest you run Rogue Remover and see if it finds anything:

avast! does detect spyware but I would recommend you also use the following. (They are all free for home use and don't take up any system resources).

AVG Anti-Spyware:

a-Squared Free:

Ad-Aware:

Spybot Search & Destroy:

Internet Explorer has a pop-up blocker if you have XP SP2, otherwise try Firefox or Opera which have built-in pop-up blockers.
