first free avast home scan
« on: April 14, 2007, 04:04:20 PM »
I have my first scan results that show 329 files unable to scan?
I get a list of files with a partial path but not the entire thing.( I had scan within archives checked)
Most files were under "documents and settings" and the rest were under Lavasoft program files-I use Ad Aware free.

Lavasoft files should be passworded. It's ok. If you search the board you'll see that there is a reason to password them and that the antivirus can't know the password and can't scan them. They are clean files. No worry about them.

The others, on Documents and Settings, well, you need to post more info but maybe the files are in use. You need to use boot time scanning of avast.

You can expand the column widths so you can see all the text.

Position the mouse pointer between the column headings, when you see the pointer change to a double arrow, press and hold the left mouse button and drag it to the right. The column will increase, this is a common method that works in most windows applications, explorer, etc.

You can also double click when the mouse pointer changes to the double arrow <--->, this expands the column to the width of the widest text in the column.

Thanks! I have boot scan enabled and that ran OK. I like Avast -seems to run fine and i'm not having any software conflicts. Works great with the free Comodo firewall. I was using AVG free and Kerio free firewall but I think I have a better setup now. ;D ;D ;D

No problem, welcome to the avast family and the forums.

Stick around and browse the forums, especially the sticky topics at the top of each of the forums, not to mention the avast help file. They provide a wealth of information to help you get the best from avast.

Note there has just been a program update released, we have been running beta tests for a couple of weeks, just right click the avast 'a' icon, select Updating, Program Update. The normal automatic program updates are cycled over a 7 day period to ease server load, so one of the benefits of being a forum regular if getting early notice of program updates.

I have a better setup now.
I fully agree: avast + Comodo firewall are far better than AVG + Kerio.
I've used AVG and Kerio, not at the same time, and right now, avast + Comodo 8)

I rechecked an all the files were password protected archive files.
Thanks for the update info-I can see this a helpful, friendly forum.
