can't access to internet
« on: May 21, 2007, 03:18:25 PM »
hello,
i have uninstalled "norton 2007 security" and i have instaled avast home; the program started to make a scan on reboot (blue screen) but stopped on "hyberfile".exe".
now i can not access to internet if avast is ON, i must switch it off to have a normal access to web with Firebird (the last one).
Please could you help me to resolve this problem?

Unfortunatly mauricja I can't help you with that.

I have never heard anything about "hyberfile".exe". I tried to do a google search but all different languages.

Does the internet work in Internet Explorer?

The hyberfile.sys (not .exe) is used to quickly bring your system out of hibernation (usually in a laptop) to the state it was in before hibernation, it can be very large. http://www.google.com/search?q=hyberfile.sys

If this is hyberfile.exe then it may well be suspicious as firstly a google search for hyberfile.exe returns zero hits and secondly it is a common tactic of malware to use file names very like regular legitimate/system files.

Can you confirm the file name and its location, e.g. (C:\hyberfile.xxx) ?

I also have concerns about Norton if it has been fully removed (a common problem), this can have conflict issues for any AV following in its footsteps.

A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
