How can I save pictures in my pc to an XD card inserted in my Epson Stylus Photo RX425?

I dont have a CD for use in my D: drive to copy pictures so Im using the XD card slot of my printer. I used to connect my camera to my pc via usb but I cant do that now because our camera(Olympus) is gone thats why Im using the XD card slot of our printer(3-in-1). Our pc only have MS/MS Pro, SD/MMC, CompactFlash I/II, and SmartMedia card slots. Is there a way for me to save pictures in my pc to an XD card inserted in my Epson Stylus Photo RX425?

Your XD card should be recognized as a hard-drive.
Check your drive listing in My Computer.
Simply highlight the pictures you want transferred and drag them over to the appropriate
hard drive (XD Card)

I doubt you can transfer via your printers card slots to your PC.

If not, since you haven't got the camera and USB connection the only thing you can do is purchase a cheap multi-card reader with usb connection to your PC.

This is a stand alone device that isn't too dissimilar to your printers multi-card reader 3in1 is considered low now there are 5in1, 7in1, etc. With this you should be able to achieve what you did with the camera, plug in the usb card reader into a PC usb port and plug in the XD Card.

You can't transfer anything from the slot. But you can transfer from the card inserted in that slot.

Thanks Bob, assuming cromwell1230's printer and connection method accepts detection, that is very handy and would save some cash.

Though I would have thought cromwell1230 would have been able to see the additional drive in windows explorer if this was possible in their computer.

Thanks Bob3160 & DavidR for being there to help...i really appreciate it.  I, however, still dont know how to go about my problem on how to save pics in my pc to an XD card in my printer.  I've found this http://support.epson-europe.com/onlineguides/en/sprx420/index.htm on my research and your advise to check in My Computer is right(goto Product Info on the left>Using Memory Card>Saving Files to a Memory Card).  However when I double click on My Computer it only have #1. Files stored on this computer #2. Hard Disk Drives(with local C:) #3. Devices with Removable Storage(with DVD-RW Drive D:) and #4. Scanner and Cameras(with Epson Stylus Photo RX420). I dont know how(or I have no way) to access the XD card inserted in the printer. And when I double click on Epson Stylus Photo RX420 in #4. it gives me a dialog box to "Initiate a new scan" with options on which program to use(Picasa2,PhotoImpression 5,Microsoft Scanner & camera Wizard,Epson Smart Panel). Im also wondering why my pc is detecting it as Epson Stylus Photo RX420 when in fact my printer is Epson Stylus Photo RX425. I've checked if I can print documents in my pc using our printer and it's ok...so I think my pc is configured to the right printer.  Are they(Epson Stylus Photo RX420 & Epson Stylus Photo RX425) the same?

Using windows explorer (not the My Computer interface), if you can see the drive that is your XD card, you can copy the files to one of the PC's Folders.

This should be little different from when you had your camera windows xp should detect the storage and you dragged or copied the files in the camera on to your hard disk.

I think I know what my real problem now.  How can I bring back the E: drive and the F: drive? And I think I also have G: drive, im not sure.  I used to see them before(3 or 4 mos ago) when I double click on My Computer but now I only have the Local C: drive & the D: drive in Devices with Removable Storage.  I might have messed up some settings 4mos ago that made my E: & F: drive(and G: drive) disappear...now I dont know how i can make them re-appear again.  I also used to see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my taskbar before but I think I might have disabled it and it's now gone in my taskbar.  Could my problem be related to this?  I also tried Windows Explorer but I cant find the XD card(or the E: & F: drive).  I also tried inserting the memory card of my Nokia 6600 in the SD/MMC slot of my pc and again I cannot access the memory card.  I used to copy pictures from my pc to this memory card of my Nokia 6600 before.  All of these made me suspect that my real problem is that my pc is not detecting any other drive except the local C: drive and D: drive.  I hope you could help me sort this out.  I'll be waiting for your reply.

That would appear to be the problem a failure to detect hardware/devices, etc. see images.

I did a google search that may point you in the right direction, http://www.google.com/search?q=windows+not+detecting+usb+device or
http://www.google.com/search?q=windows+not+detecting+external+storage.

Could it be that my E:, F:, and G: drives have been disabled?  Do you know of a way to enable those drives?  I've tried right clicking My Computer>Manage>Disk Management and the screen doesn't show up those drives...it only shows the C: and the D: drive.  And when I try right clicking My Computer>Manage then click Removable Storage I get a stop/warning message saying "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it".  I really hope this is a reversible thing meaning I can still enable those drives.  Is it possible for those drives to be wiped out while doing CheckDisk?  Can virus wipe out those drives?  Im really at a lost how this happened.

Check the services and see if it is disabled as suggested, windows start, run, type services.msc and click OK.

Check out this link, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844. I got it from a google search for drive letter assignment xp http://www.google.com/search?q=drive+letter+assignment+xp, so there are lots more hits to check if needs be. Or you could modify the google search string.

Im so happy & relieved today...I got the E:, F:, G:, and H: drive back again!  I've disabled them in the past(now I remember) via the Safely Remove Hardware icon in my Notification Tray.  In my desire(in the past) to minimize the icons that are shown in the Notification area I've double clicked on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and on the window that appeared I click on Properties(re: USB Mass Storage Device) then on the window that appeared I choose to disable Device Usage.  This leads to disabling of the other drives(E F G H) in my pc.  I only intend to disable the Safely Remove Hardware program&icon at that time.  Now this morning, prompted by latest DavidR's suggestion to check for any disabled service(s), when I go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services> I noticed that Removable Storage is "disabled"...so when I right clicked on it today and under Properties choose "Automatic" in Startup Type then "start" the service all the previously "missing" drives (re)appeared in My Computer>Manage>Disk Management.  Anyway, all is well now and i can now have peace of mind knowing that my pc is in good(if not excellent) working order.  Lesson learned...I now intend to keep a diary of all the changes in the configuration & settings that I'll be doing in my pc.  Thank you very much and im sorry for all the hassle that I've given you.

By the way, can I get rid of the Safely Remove Hardware icon without disabling any drives?  Or do I have to see it forever in the Notification Tray.

Your welcome, no hassle, especially since you learned a little more into the bargain ;D

I wouldn't even consider trying to remove the Safely Remove Hardware icon, you need it to ensure that safe to remove a removable drive/card, etc. otherwise it may be possible to corrupt data on it. The icon should only be there when you have a removable drive/card connected, if that is always then you could 'hide' the icon and if you need it you just click the < arrow (on the left of the system tray icons) to display hidden icons.

Should you want to hide/show any item in the system tray area,
you can follow the following procedure:
Right-click in any blan area of the Taskbar, and selecting Properties.
then follow the outlined steps

Hope that helps.  :)
You can also use this method to selective choose which items will be permanently hidden, selectively hidden or,
always shown in your system tray.

Thanks bob3160, you've very clearly explained & shown it to me.  By the way, can u teach me your trick on how you're able to post here exactly what's in a computer screen?  It really makes it very easy to follow & understand correspondence between 2 parties regarding some technical matter(s).
