Virus not removed?
« on: July 20, 2007, 09:54:00 PM »
Hi, I have then newest Avast Home in the v4.x series. I just got a pop-up from avast saying a virus is here, here are the details:

File name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\hqdpr.sys
Malware name: Win32: Trojan-gen {Other}
Malware type: Virus/Worm

I pressed the recommended action: move to chest, and restart my computer: it pops up again!

Now I press repair: restart, and again pop-ups.

Last I click Delete... and restart, now it pop-ups again.

I tried also scanning full computer scan in Windows Defender<results: nothing.

What's wrong? I hate this virus. It just keeps reappearing.

Hi shaythong,

As a first step, I'd suggest scanning for rootkits using these three scanners:

Panda Antirootkit
Blacklight
AVG Anti-Rootkit

If they detect and remove a rootkit, re-scan with avast! immediately.

Also try the usual free adware/spyware scanners.

AVG Anti-Spyware Free (Requires Win2k/XP)
Ad-Aware Free
Spybot Search & Destroy
