Updating as Non-Admin
« on: July 31, 2007, 10:09:35 PM »
Hello,

I'm new to avast!
As far as I understand in avast there is 2 kind of updates, prog and v.def.

So my question is: is it possible to update when one login to the system as a non-admin?
Or is it Admin rights are required?

Thanks...

Avast 4 Home edt. on WinXp Pro (SP2)

Limited user accounts can update the VPS signatures but not Program Updates.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Thanks for responding.

However when I tried to update VPS as a limited user it did not succeeded.  ???
There is no error message but when I check the About dlg it shows the old version number for VPS, so I then log-on as a Admin and tried again, and this time it's updated.  :)

So what I'm doing wrong? Can you guide me here plaese?
Also there are few warning msgs in both sys event viewer and plenty in avast log viewer  :(
need help...

Thanks

I don't know why, I believe it should unless your firewall is also blocking.

What is your firewall ?

Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?
- If it does delete the entries for it and do a manual update, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

If you could give a few examples from the log viewer for update failures.

Besides this, please, post the last 100-150 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Hello,

Thanks for responding.
You see it's not my computer. The person I'm trying to help with avast issue has uninstalled avast from his machine. However he (and eventually me) will try to install and update it again this night (or early next morning), so till then I am unable to report anything here.

Thanks.
