VBS Redolf, corrupted files, hard disk space
« on: February 28, 2004, 10:30:54 AM »
Hi, I've been kind of reading the posts here to see if
anything was related to my problem.  Seems others too
are having similar problems, except for one
difference.

My hard disk is saying it has run out of space!
I know my disk has only 2GB of data on it(max 10GB)
and the system is saying it has 6GB as well as
occassionaly giving me error messages saying the disk
is full.  Understandabely the computer is slowing down
immensely.

I have found the offending folder, that is the
C:\windows\temp file, reading 4GB.  Amazingly there is an _avast4_ folder with some pictures of what seems to
be a product launch or something, I have no idea how it got there!  Are these files system critical or can I delete the folder and solve the problem?

I have done continual avast scans on it, Avast says I
have the VBS redolf virus.
Avast is unable to scan a few files, including a cache
file in my opera browser as well as others in the temp
file mentioned saying that they are corrupted.

Any advice people?

Well, turn of System Restore (this will delete the viruses and release significant amount of disk space).

You can also delete all files inside TEMP folder except _avast4_,because in this folder is stored a component of Avast! Virus Cleaner (similar to stand alone version, just this one is integrated into Avast! AV.) I already mentioned to Alwil guys that they should move this file somewhere inside Avast! installation folder... maybe in some next release...

If you can't remove virus in windows, try using avast! Boot-time scan.
