GUI display unreadable!
« on: September 02, 2007, 04:07:30 PM »
I am using avast 4 on Ubuntu 7.04. My GUI does not display properly, it is completely unreadable. When I run 'avastgui' the console shows:-

(process:7403): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib

(process:7403): Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers

Am I missing a dependency, even though it said all were satisfied when I installed or any other ideas?

It happened to me long time ago.
Uninstalling and installing again solve the problem as I can remember...

Thank you for the above suggestions, I have tried both. Unfortunately neither solved the problem.

Did you try to update all your Ubuntu installation?
Did you did any changes in appearance options last days?

Using avast for linux in command-line mode is cool too  :)

Why don't you try ? (su avast -h)

I prefer to use sudo, that way if you have to leave to do something no one else can get on your pc stop avast and still have root permissions.

Thank you all for your suggestions so far. I have not solved the problem yet.

My Ubuntu installation is up to date, I do use compiz fusion, but I have tried avast with this disabled.

The text version is able to scan for viruses etc and works properly, however the gui only displays a couple of // symbols and is not usable as a result.
