I've lost my Avast Webshields setup
« on: September 07, 2007, 10:02:57 AM »
How do I set my settings from the Avast webshields section to have the virus automatic goto chest when the Avast webshields pickup a virus from a website.

I've wrote down before but I've lost it.

Thank you

Short answer you don't.

The web shield detects malware on the internet before it gets on to your system so the only option given by the web shield is abort connection. So it doesn't have the same options available in the standard shield.

But there's still the Silent mode option if you don't want to see the WebShield popups.

But the silent mode doesn't send it to the chest though does it (SpeedyPCs main point I think), just aborts the connection without input ?

Vlk that's is what I am talking about I want to set the websheilds automatic straight to chest, I don't want to see the pop-up I've set this option on my Avast Home Edition Vlk please point me the correct way to the right settings.

I don't get this Avast pop virus all the time but like to have this option put in place, DavidR I've done this before when I had my new computer I lost all the complete notes I've wrote done about the Avast settings.

It is easy to get rid of the pop-up but not to have the suspect/infected file sent to the chest. I don't know how you have done this before for the Web Shield as it doesn't have those option in the customize section.

The standard shield does.
See the avast help file, Resident Protection: Standard Shield Provider Settings - "Advanced" Page.
Click on Standard Shield and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the General answer No.

These settings don't exist in the Web Shield.

Vlk have you change anything way back from the older version it used to have an option in the webshields that automatically move virus to chest, it very similar to in the Standard Shields section in the Advanced tab section or am I been brain washed :-\.

It hasn't changed it has been like that since the web shield was first introduced, why download an infected file that avast detects to your system (even the chest) when it has been intercepted. The abort connection has been the only choice given.

That is correct, Abort Connection has always been the only choice, and the Silent Mode simply prevents the warning dialog from being displayed (aborting the connection immediately).

The malware was blocked even before it got into your computer so there is no way to put it in the chest. That is the function of the WebShield.

Nothing wasted as it may well have clarified that point for other users who have or will read this topic at some point in time.
