Wellcome... we need to know more to help you...

Did you try to repair your avast installation (Control Panel > Add/Remove programs)?

Do you have (or had in the past) any other antivirus installed in your system?

Which is your operational system?

This is my first time to visit any forum.  I'm not sure of the protocol.  Can I post a query here because I'm writing about the exact same error message?
If not I apologize and will open a new topic.  Please advise,
Lisa

My operating system is windows XP, I was running norton antivirus but disabled it and I still get error message.  I uninstalled and using revouninstaller and reinstalled Avast home 4.7 and get same message.

Norton can be a real pig to remove it gets its hooks deeply into the system and I think even a tool like revouninstaller would have difficulty removing remnants.

A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT

So you think all I need to do is really uninstall Norton and it will fix the Virus Chest error message?

I think so too, it does appear to have resolved this problem in the past.
