How to use FTP on Win10 without disabling/removing Avast
« on: February 05, 2022, 11:46:19 PM »
I'm trying to set up an FTP server on W10 Pro for my D:\ drive so that my friends can pull down files.
Unfortunately, I'm getting "These settings are being managed by vendor application Avast Antivirus"
and I cannot select "Allow and App or feature through Windows Defender Firewall".

Is there a workaround that doesn't involve me disabling or uninstalling Avast so that the FTP works through the firewall?

In this case you can enable the server executable in Firewall:
1. Open Avast Free Antivirus.
2. Click Protection.
3. Once the options appear, click Firewall.
4. Click the Gear Icon to open the Firewall Settings.
5. Find What should Avast do with apps that have not been yet assigned application rules or something similar.
6. Near that, select View Application Rules or something similar.
7. Once you get a window select Application Rules.
8. Scroll down and find the FTP application.
9. Edit the firewall rules to ensure Avast always Allows the app.
10. Try it again and see if it fixed your problem.

If this does not work, feel free to contact again.
Windows 11, Avast Free Antivirus. Avast One => Avast Free Antivirus. Currently using Avast Free. Antiviruses: Windows Defender => Avast One(WinDefender deactivated) => Avast One uninstall => WinDefender was activated again => Avast Free Antivirus

Can you also help me and recommend me a few reliable and trustworthy free ftp server options right now? To be honest, I have already tried to google a lot of different variants on my own but I still don't really understand what to choose among all of them right now. I hope that you will be able to help

I used to use a couple that worked well. Haven't used them for awhile and since getting a new computer haven't yet had use for them, but . . .
Cute FTP. I had the paid version but they do have a free version.
Fire FTP is/was an add on for Firefox/Waterfox. Unsure if it works on other browsers.

FileZilla is a good option. You can encrypt all traffic.
