Tray Icon Not Changing Status
« on: March 23, 2022, 04:29:02 AM »
When you disable all shields the tray icon does not change to reflect the status. Also, when you hover over the tray icon it shows a green 'You are protected' even though the shields are disabled.

Hi,

Can you repair Avast One, please?

Account> Settings> Troubleshoot> "Repair Avast One"

That did not resolve the issue. I checked on a clean Windows 10 VM I had tested Avast on and the tray icon would show the correct status. So it must be something about this particular installation. I did notice that the Microsoft Security tray icon does change to reflect the AV status.

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.

I actually backed up my settings and uninstalled Avast. I reinstalled it and the tray icon worked as it should. I then restored my settings from backup and the problem returned. I did a reset all settings to restore them to default and it works again. So it is something in my saved settings that is causing the issue.

Depending on how many changes you made, finding the culprit may take some time.
All you can do is change one setting at a time and see which setting actually caused the problem.
Just one question?

No, it is not checked. When I was having the issue I tried checking it with no effect. Seems to be working now. Each change I make to the settings, I now test so I can try to figure out which one is causing it.

That setting needs to be checked if you expect to see an indication
that Avast is working.
(It works even if it's not checked but you don't see it.)

Even unchecked, the tray icon will show a red x when the shields are disabled. And hovering over it will show not protected.

I was referring to actively scanning not disabled shields.
