i have a paid subscription that says i can use on up to 10 devices but when i try to put it on a second device it says maximum limit reached and i can only use it on 1 device.

I would suggest that you contact Avast support via https://support.avast.com/en-us/contact/sales_other_general so that they can correct your subscription.
