I believe it is called Email Guardian in Avast One.

There should certainly be an email protection element, does this not get you there:
Open Avast One and select Explore ▸ Email Guardian, then click Open Email Guardian.

Thanks David for your trouble.  Unfortunately, Avast One Explore does not contain any information about Email Guardian on my installation.  I installed Avast One over an existing installation of Avast Free 22.9.

The notes in the link you gave me do not mention the Thunderbird email client so perhaps Avast One does not include this functionality?

Never having used Avast One, I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I would probably gone for a clean install first removing Avast Free and a restart (possibly also using the uninstall utility) before installing Avast One.

Whilst the article doesn't specifically mention Thunderbird, it does mention:
Quote from: extract
Select your type of email account. If you do not use Outlook, select Other.
And:

If your email provider is not listed in the table above or you already set up your email account to work with Email Guardian, then continue with the steps below:
On the Avast One screen, enter your email address, then click Continue.

Another thought (from another post if my memory serves me well) is there could be two Avast entries in the Thunderbird Settings >  Privacy & Security > Certificates (see attached). That person deleted both before reimporting the Avast Certificate.  I don't know if they did a Thunderbird restart before reimporting the avast certificate.

Hi,

It should be under Explore> Online Privacy > Email Guardian
Before installing Avast One, you need to uninstall other Avast apps. Please see https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/one-faq/#idt_2200

Thanks David.  You have supplied the key to using Avast One.  I had not looked in the Explorer->Online Privacy menu.  I think that I now have momentum with Avast One.  Thunderbird is working well.
