Infected by w32Swen.AQMM worm?
« on: December 30, 2007, 12:38:56 AM »
I was advised that my PC might be infected with the worm above. Symptoms: Pop up warning window any time I want to access Internet, message: "Windows can not find ProgramName. Make sure you typed the name correctly..." By the way, in a few seconds the original access command is executed, but the warning window stays. I am directed to http:\\support.microsoft.com/kb/837334, given instructions there (like modifying Registry etc) includes : "Update the virus definition of the antivirus software installed on your computer: Scan your computer with the antivirus software then follow instruction to remove this worm"
Installed is avast v.4.7.  Using windows Explorer I can not find the virus. How do I do this with avast? (scanning the PC and remove the worm)
Please advise. Thank you.

May I ask who or what advised you about this infection?

Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it's safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.
