automatic scans

Despite instructions to the contrary, I can not find the setting to prevent AUTOMATIC scans. Please help me find it.

Not really a reply,I'd like to join in if that's O.K.
Is it possible to disable the automatic scheduled scan? It comes up after a Smart scan.
It's just I like to decide what my computer does and when it does it.
Hope that's not weird.

Smart scan is only there to scare you into buying a paid version of Avast.

Probably also why you can't change what scan is on the home screen, like you were able to years ago.

Whilst I have been only using Avast Free for almost 20 years, I know of no Automatic Scan activation. 
Users can Schedule a Scan to occur according to the settings they choose (weekly, etc). 

So I guess that is why Igor is asking what scan.

The Smart Scan is an On-Demand scan not Automatic.  I don't do any on-demand scans including the Not so Smart Scan.

No it doesn't (as far as I'm aware), the only thing it gives is that there are things that need attention (essentially pushing the paid products) 'Resolve' I think is the word used.

A little like the Notice at the bottom of the Screen when you open the UI, see attached image.

Which is why Igor asked the OP 'joephil42' what automatic Scan it was ?

I think that may be true that after doing an initial manual Smart Scan, Smart Scan then sets a schedule to run automatically. This post says something about that: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=319798.msg1688356#msg1688356

I have not run a Smart Scan for ages, but I do vaguely remember that I once had to cancel a scheduled scan, which I did not realise was set and started out of the blue. I don't know if that still happens with Smart Scan or not.

I seem to remember something similar. It would make sense too, if you reason that Smart Scan is an upsell tool, there might be motivation to have it periodically try to persuade you again.

I have no idea if that is still a thing.

I've had NO notifications of replies and have therefore been absent from this remarkably lively discussion. I have now discovered the well-hidden setting.

What didn't work ?
You have to have saved your image to a folder on your local computer not online.

You need to first Preview your post to see the additional options.
As you can see from my attached image there are restrictions on the file type (png, jpg or gif images) and max of 4 attachments and max 1024KB total file size.
