No Progress Bar in Manual Update
« on: July 02, 2023, 11:38:03 PM »
I update manually, and the progress bar is gone. If it takes 5 minutes to update, with cpu and net activity, it will say "Checking For Virus Definitions..." the whole time. There used to be a progress bar. I need that.
[The progress bar used to appear instead of the initial Checking, so if there was no update, it had said that there was.]
Also, someone trying the program will not trust it after seeing this.

I requested changes for Avast in some fixed topic, saying that put the progress bar again marking the percentage and even the amount of MB that is downloading, such as the ESET NOD32 antivirus makes it with its product, because the way that This is not sure what is happening.

Not entirely sure what update is being done here.

I did a manual 'virus definitions' and the bar moved left and right for about 5 seconds and it was done.  I'm sure what would be gained by giving a percentage or time as it would also rely on a decent internet connection, etc.

This bar that runs to the right and left would be better to be exchanged for a progress bar loading from right to left and showing how many MB is downloading or even a percentage.
The same for product update.

Have you seen the ESET NOD32 progress bar?
I find it very good shows a lot of information for the user.

An example of what  ?

We still really don't know what the OP is asking.

Your image actually accentuates what I was talking about in the other topic.  It shows 3kB of 0kB and 0% complete.
I don't see Avast users screaming about this as a possible feature (in the other topic), so are Avast likely to pick it up and run with it, I think not.

This is an example of how I wanted Avast's progress bar to be the same in the designer part is much more beautiful than it is right now.
I speak of the appearance.

Again, I see no beauty in the example image that you posted, if anything it doesn't give any meaning when the figures as I mentioned (It shows 3kB of 0kB and 0% complete.) aren't actually showing anything of use.

For me aesthetics over function come lower down the scale of importance, you will have to hope Avast think differently to me as I really don't see the worth.

If I had to choose on aesthetics, I think the Avast UI looks more pleasing in this regard.  When looked at in a different way, how many people actually use this function rather than use the automatic virus definition and streaming updates.  Is it even worth it, but luckily that is only my opinion.

I understand your opinion. In the image you put by showing the bar going left and right. It would be good to have shown the amounts of MB carrying the loading of the bar. Or even the percentage showing, I only speak of a designer thing to get better representative for the user that makes manual update know that the definitions of coming is being downloaded

Getting better representation, why is it needed when the Program has auto update for virus definitions and also streaming updates.

Why the hell would you want to effectively reduce your protection by disabling updates to do manual virus definitions.  If you don't disable auto updates (probably the greatest majority of Avast users), why would you even need this.

So I'm done as we still don't have a response from the OP on what it is he is doing from my Reply #2

Like any other antivirus software when these updates come a good part comes with problem and bug, then I hope for a while and I do manual updating after one three days later.
So when I said we need a progress bar by gradually carrying how many MB or even the percentage is better to see what is being downloaded in MB quantities.

We still don't know what the OP was asking about as they haven't responded in almost 2 weeks.

Lets be straight you have been talking about virus definition updates in this topic.  Now you are changing tack

I have never felt the need to do this with virus definitions, a little like playing russian roulette with an automatic as the virus definitions (one of the most important functions/feature of antivirus programs.  But I have only been using Avast for a little over 20 years, without it ever having a problem.

Answer me this, what would you rather have, a false positive or an infection  ?

So I'm done!

I prefer an infection, because after to take it off and the false positive can end the software I have here even for work
But it was good to exchange an idea with you thanks for everything, hugs
