Restore data
« on: August 13, 2023, 03:08:05 PM »
I recently ran the repair tool but instead of my installation being repaired it was deleted and i lost all my bookmarks extensions and such.

Is there any way to restore at least some of the lost data or am I screwed.

First let me say that I don't use the Avast Secure Browser.

You say you ran the Repair Tool - As far as I'm aware there is no stand alone Repair Tool, for the Avast Antivirus or Avast Secure Browser, where did you find this tool ?

Avast has an Uninstall Tool in the event of an uninstall fails - AvastClear.exe - but this is for Avast Antivirus

As you are posting in the Avast Secure Browser for Windows sub-forum, I can only assume it is this you are talking about and there doesn't appear to be a Repair for ASB.

Log in to Windows as a user with administrator permissions.
    Uninstall Avast Secure Browser.
Make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Avast Secure Browser.
    Reinstall Avast Secure Browser.
So if this is what you did that data is gone.

The uninstallation tool also has a repair tool built in, that's what I was referring to. https://imgur.com/A3GOFx8

I did some research myself, and it seems there is no way to recover the data.

But for anyone looking to restore your data, see if you have it saved on other browsers and if you have bookmark html's saved on your pc. Also, passwords should be saved to your avast account if you were logged in with one on your browser.

When you select to remove the browsing tool, it erases your data.

Yes that appears to be an option, for ASB, but unless you unchecked the 'Also Delete Your Browsing Data' (looks like it is a default option) I fear it has gone.

I have cropped your screenshot and attached it to the forum topic as many won't visit 3rd party links to unknown content.

In Chrome I don't have to visit the link just hovering on the link gives me a preview of the image. :)

Which I don't get in Firefox and I don't know what other browsers.

That said I don't really like content opening (regardless of what it might be) simply by hovering over the link. Typically I hover over a link to see where it is pointing not for it to open/run what is under the displayed URL.

The extension is Imagus 0.9.8.74 CRX for Chrome. It only shows images. It doesn't run executable files.
