Avast Desktop Shortcut persistence needs to be fixed
« on: November 24, 2023, 12:23:41 AM »
When I initially installed Avast free, I un-ticked the 'create desktop icon' tick-box because I like to keep a clean desktop.

It installed a desktop icon anyway, as if my preference is unimportant.
I want it gone. So, I deleted it. But it just keeps coming back like a bad house-guest you can't get to leave your home.
It acts like a virus that Avast itself cannot get rid of.

Sometimes restart my system, sometimes I do not. It doesn't matter, the little vermin icon returns every time.

How do I get rid of this pesky icon forever?

This issue could have me searching for a new antivirus if it cannot be removed.

See this topic https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=313962.0 whilst it is from last year it should still be valid.

I just deleted my Avast Desktop short cut again and restarted my system and it hasn't reappeared.

I have done this before, but in the interest of being thorough, I'll do it again and see if anything changes this time. Thanks.

You're welcome.

I did some searching and that link I gave was the most recent and I'm not seeing this currently in the forums outside of your post.

It could be that many have it on their desktop through choice, so won't have this issue you are having.  Plus no reappearance on my desktop.

Edit Typo.
