Automatic update created a shortcut on my Desktop
« on: January 26, 2024, 02:39:18 PM »
When the computer restarted, an Avast shortcut was created on my Desktop: C:\Users\Public\Desktop\Avast Free Antivirus.lnk.
I hope, they are not planning to create a shortcut at every automatic update. In case of Adobe Acrobat users complained for a year until Adobe finally ceased this practice.

Avast Free Antivirus 23.12.6094 (build 23.12.8700.813).

Dear all, I want to leave my complaint here too, I set it to turn off the computer, and when I turned it on today it had this icon as if I had updated the AVAST VPN, a detail I didn't put to update it was without my permission.
How do I stop the VPN from updating automatically.
I prefer to update manually.

This really should be in the Avast SecureLine VPN sub-forum - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=80.0

I haven't got an Avast Antivirus shortcut on my desktop.

Effectively I don't restart my laptop that often, commonly this is after windows or other program updates which require a restart.

I don't see anything in the location you gave for avast, see attached.

I don't know, why you don't see an Avast desktop icon. Anyway, you have two examples (me and New_Style_xd) where an Avast updater created a desktop icon.
Don't do this!

The program was updated without me wanting to and the icon was automatically placed on the desktop, something I didn't want it to be.

What if you delete that entry for the avast shortcut - C:\Users\Public\Desktop\Avast Free Antivirus.lnk.

I don't allow Automatic Program Updates for Avast and have never had a forced update, but periodically checking the forum for the new release and monitor that for any issues.  Then at some point I initiate a manual program update for Avast.

Two instances in (this topic) the forums isn't a lot.  I would expect to see a lot more reports in the forum.  Mind you many might not have a issue with Avast creating the desktop shortcut.

Given what you have said in yet another topic, this is related to your Avast SecureLine VPN.

I understand this is true and it is related to himself.  :)
