Why newly updated Avast free 24.1 show this date and time. 23.12 was correct. Win 10 22H2 x64

Good question.

That's the default creation date of many or all programs when installation fails to completely take place.

Suggest a repair of avast followed by a system reboot.

I'm not entirely sure what it is that you are trying to pin down/resolve.

I can't see why you have posted that image, to me it being in the History section and related to the old eicar test to confirm your AV is actually working.
That date I would say relates to that and not the avast version.
That said it is strange that the date is 20 Jan 1970, you probably haven't been using Avast from then - so I just wonder why it would be there at all.

See attached image of my History.

Using the Dismiss All removes all of those entries, have you tried that ?

I believe that is what they're trying to pin down/resolve.

And why I suggested "Using the Dismiss All removes all of those entries, have you tried that ?"
So lets wait to see what the OP has to say.

I tried repair, online install, uninstall - install, always the same...

Despite this there would appear to be something remaining - so I suggest using the avast uninstall utility would be the next step

Clean Reinstall - 1. - Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD. Make a note of the steps required or print the page.
2. - Download the latest Avast off-line installation file for your Avast Program http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe and save to your HDD.

Follow the instructions in the link in 1.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.7.6124 (build 24.7.9311.855) UI 1.0.811/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

But that ignores what the issue is. The issue isn't that the notification exists, it's that it's showing the wrong date. Clicking "dismiss all" will just erase it from the list. That won't answer his question, which is "why is it showing a date that is clearly incorrect."

Hi DavidR
what version are you using: v23.12 as on your signature or the new version v24.1 (update available through the program) that corttex has installed?

He seems to be saying that the date problem only exists with 24.1 but did not exist with 23.12.

Avast free 24.1 show this date and time. 23.12 was correct

As far as I'm concerned, I haven't upgraded yet.

edit:That's right, I've just updated to v24.1 and the notifications are showing 1970 for me too.

@DavidR
Monitoring.
What about beta 24.1.6099 ?

It would appear that the newest version, 24.1 hasn't been deployed out here in Midwest USA yet, whereas you've a link to the newest version.  That would be 24.1.8821.0 build number.

Only version available here is this one:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=325690.msg1712555#msg1712555  It does take some time for a world-wide deployment to occur.

I will try to install using the uninstall utility and then doing a clean install after and report.

Thank you for the latest link for 24.1, DavidR.

@ chris..
Generally I'm in no rush to update, firstly I monitor the Betas to see what is going on, followed by what is new and or fixed (as and when it gets posted) in the new release.
Followed by am/was I impacted by any of the fixes or are there any new functions updates that I really need.

If the answer is No I'm in no rush, my Program Updates are set to Manual.

I hadn't seen this mentioned by anyone running the beta builds in the last 4 of the releases.

@    mchain
You're welcome, generally that does have the latest release, but if you much closer to the release date it might not have been updated.
This version if downloaded is 24.1.8821.0 - but unsure of the build number.

A little off topic here...

Let's wait for the original poster (OP) to come back and we assist if asked.

If you are going to repeat the mantra clean reinstall, I have already done it and the result is the same. Update and see if it happens to you too...

For information, I have a second computer which is still in v23.12 and the date problem is also present, so I'm not sure if it's related to the program update but to another update.

I am still on 23.12.6094 (build 23.12.8700.815) and can confirm dates of all items listed in Notifications>History are 19 Jan 1970 or 20 Jan 1970.

Like DavidR, I always check the forum for issues with new versions before updating manually.

Greetings from slopes in Dolomites in Italy!
The Dolomites are good for skiing holidays this time of year, I hope not all the devs have decided to take leave at the same time :)
