Bagles, Pakes and Agents
« on: January 13, 2008, 03:39:50 PM »
After a Kaspersky-Online scan I've got following trojans on my system:

Worm.Win32.Bagle.of (virus-created files as random six-char number with "exe" extension in system\drivers\DOWN)
Trojan.Win32.Pakes.bwy (same as above)
Backdoor.Win32.Agobot.afk (system32\host.exe)
Rootkit.Win32.Agent.p (system32\rdriv.sys)
PSW.Win32.PdPinch.dr (svchost.exe)

As it is explained, trojans were installed by a downloader in a zipped-file (identified as "Downloader.Win32.Bagle.hx"), which is still stored on my system's Temp.

The safe-mode is blocked as well as any security app. I've tried to install.

I have some large files on this system which I need to recover, but cannot back up. Can you recommend any removal-tool or a way to install Avast!, so the trojan won't block it? Also, I'd appreciate if you give me any way to remove virus without re-installing the OS (OS and the files are on the same partition).

1st lesson, split the HDD in more than one partition, separating the OS from the documents and data.

Won't BitDefender on-line scanning allow the removal of the malware?
Booting in safe mode, won't help that other tools (antitrojans/antispywares) remove it?
Why can't you backup your data?

You're welcome. Please, post back the results and feel free to ask for further help. Although I'm not a cleaning expert, there are a lot of other users that can follow your thread.

Unfortunately we don't have the capacity to back up 80 gigabyte of files in 7 chunks, which contain our mid-semester video production. While editing, my friend was tempted to download some cracked effect software from P2P network and so it started. First we've got the random number-files launching and then the permanent unstoppable 'wintems.exe' came up, with 'hldrrr.exe' popping up once in a while, just for a few seconds, in process monitor.

BitDefender cleaned some of the files, but it didn't stop these processes and still, I cannot install any AV-software. The safe mode, as I say, is blocked: therefore cannot access the safe mode (seems to be a clever virus or many viruses at the same time). The reason is that the sptd.sys file is infected, inaccessible and altered. So everytime I boot up for safe mode it prompts me wheather I should load it or not. No matter what I do, computer restarts.

Same trouble with all other security applications and services.

I've started the 'Avast! Cleaner' just some minutes ago, but it wasn't able to find any viruses in memory, however, 'wintems' remained there all the time.

I've searched the registry-files for wintems and hldrrr, but no record of them was found. It means that this executables are laucnhed through some other library I cannot find.

I think if I somehow manage to alter identification of Avast! AV I would be able to install it and won't get it blocked. But it doesn't seems possible to me, unless a package of avast with already alternated identification is created.

Let's see if we can knock some of this out

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I'll try the combofix now, yet I expect it to be blocked as well.

Thank you.

Thank you so much  ;)

I think combofix removed the trojan after I launched it from memory card. Now I scan the system with Avast! and I'm pretty sure everything will be ok.

Sorry for the iconvinience.

You should post the combofix log, to see if any remnants remain. We can also look at your safe mode problem.

Hi. I have the exact same problem. I post my reply now. What should I do next? Use combofix, or what?

Not seeing a whole lot here. So we can look deeper.

Open Spybot and make sure teatimer is disabled, we will re-enable afterwards. To do so do the following

Click mode
click Advanced mode
if you get a warning answer "yes"
click tools
click resident
uncheck resident "teatimer" and SDHelper if installed
click allow change
reboot
Download and Unzip to your Desktop: http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/ResetTeaTimer.zip
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer.

Move hijackthis.exe into it's own folder. For example C:\program file\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe or C:\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt  -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply. Or attach them.

I've used combofix, after renaming it Combofix2.exe, and it seems to have removed allmost everything, except Bagle IX Worm(as seen by XoftSpy). It's in the registry, at software\firstrrrun. It deletes it for the time of the OS running, but ar reboot it's there. My antivirus is running, and spybot also. I have no more problems in running programs, but xoftspy still sees it there... How can I "ban" that entry from the registry?

I would need to see the combofix log, to be able to advise you.

DSS Log:
Main.txt
Extra.txt
Moved.txt

I attached them because they exceed the maximum allowed length.

We'll have to fix your safe mode. Please post the combofix log. It should be in a folder on c:\combofix.
