When trying to install Anti-Virus free on my windows 7 machine I get an error message that the drivers are unsigned and the software will not install. Is there any way around this or a way to fix it? Thanks. Chuck

Yes, you can try to temporarily disable driver signature checking in Windows 7 to install antivirus. Here are the steps to do this:

Restart your computer and press the F8 key repeatedly during the boot process to access the Windows advanced options menu.

In the advanced options menu, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select "Disable driver signature enforcement" and press Enter.

Windows 7 will start with mandatory driver signature enforcement disabled. In this state, you can try installing the antivirus again.

After successfully installing the antivirus, restart your computer. During the restart, Windows 7 will reapply the driver signature check.

It is important to keep in mind that disabling driver signature verification can expose your system to security risks. Therefore, after installing the antivirus, it is recommended to reactivate this setting to ensure the security of your computer.

Thanks for the reply.
I realise there is an automatic update setting, but I've set it to notification of available update as I am testing API response times and don't want unexpected background traffic interfering. My initial question was simply to know if the manual update works as expected, because if it does, it's a very bad UI design, having to click the same two same buttons (in the notification and in the app when it opens) and then having a screen tell you your virus definitions are out of date again, and not tell you the update is actually in progress?
Is this how it is supposed to work for notifications of updates?

I really don't know where you are getting the double action required from.

You can use the Avast Tray Icon, Right Click functionality, for either Program or Engine and Virus Definitions, does that in one Action and displays the UI to indicate that the action has been carried out.  It isn't saying you have to click it again.
