Avast caught in loop trying to update software
« on: July 19, 2024, 04:20:36 AM »
Since Avast made a change to its software a few days ago, it is impossible for me to update other software programs. As soon as the software I have been using for years starts an update, I get an error message saying, "Hmm...This needs a closer look," while the program does something.

After 30 seconds of "scanning," the error message changes to "suspicious file detected" and a 60-second countdown begins as Avast continues to scan the same file, which is old-uninstaller.exe.

Avast gets stuck in an endless loop of error messages, and Windows will not allow me to close the original program until the update is complete. The only solution is to close all my windows and restart the computer, disable Avast and start the update process all over again.

Does anyone have a better work around for this annoying problem? Thank you!
