Another issue that occurs is that in those moments when the Gmail connection is intermittently lost, clicking on a link in an email will fail to open the link.

Also, Google Calendar will fail to work when attempting operations like editing an event.

It is quite expected behavior... Because there is a complete communication error with Google resources regardless of which ones. Avast has some bug that randomly causes something to be handled incorrectly.

Yes, we have established that. The question is, as I posted before, is there any way Avast can be contacted about it? This has to be reported to the developers to see if they are doing something about it.

If you Right Click the Avast tray icon and select About Avast you are shown a screen which invites "feedback".
You could try that, but do include a link back to this forum thread.

Thanks, I did that. Perhaps all of you should do the same.

You could also try the AvastUI > Menu > Settings > General > Troubleshooting > Record a performance problem - it may also be worth checking the enable debug logging option.

I guess since Avast discontinued their browser extension for Firefox back in April, they no longer care if their web shields disrupt Firefox performance...

"We have ended support of our Avast Online Security & Privacy browser extension for Mozilla Firefox. If you are running Avast Antivirus, note that Avast Web Shield helps protect your Firefox browser."

I didn't know they had, but in all honesty I have never really liked that add on during the very short time I tried it.  For me it was just some more graffiti in the web search results - plus if you have the Web Shield I couldn't see the point of the add-on.

I can't see the correlation of your comment that I highlighted in your quoted text and having Avast browser extension (or not) shouldn't make a blind bit of difference the web shield is still going to scan the web content of pages you elect to visit.

FWIW I am using Firefox 129.0.1 (64-bit) with Avast Free 24.7.6124 (build 24.7.9311.860) on Win10, with no browsing issues.
I uninstalled the Avast Online Security & Privacy browser add-on soon after it became unsupported.

I'm using same versions of Firefox and Avast on Windows 10, and so why am I getting this insoluble issue?

You can count one more person with the same problem in Firefox + GMail - oops the system encountered a problem (#001). For me it started yesterday. I already have done some tests and changes here, including some flags in Firefox (disabling HHTP 3) and the problem persists. Avast updated yesterday, so it probably is the cause.

I sent yet another feedback to Avast via the feedback link in About Avast, repeating what I wrote to them before. I also sent them the link to this forum again. It would be better if we had an email address for the relevant department - I haven't been able to find it so far.

Thanks for your effort. I am not optimistic, however. If this problem were widespread and not limited to a handful of users who've reported it so far, or if this were a case of paid Avast users, I would be more optimistic. I just hope that with 24.8 the issue might be resolved...
