Bank Mode problem
« on: August 03, 2024, 10:08:30 PM »
I don't know if this is the right forum but I'll ask here anyway. I have been using Bank Mode for a long time now to do banking, shopping, etc. yesterday I tried to access my bank and was told that the bank website does not support this browser (only Firefox, Chrome, etc.). is there any way around this? I would prefer to use Bank Mode if I possibly can.

It would be the right sub-forum if you are using the Avast Secure Browser.  This is a Chromium based browser so it is somewhat strange and to only support two browsers is crazy.  A screenshot of the blocking screen might be helpful ensuring there is no confidential content.

I have no idea how they detect what browser you are using. As far as I'm concerned (as a user) if the browser is using an https connection that should be suffice.

I suspect that the Web Shield because of the active nature to protect you scans all https traffic.  I wonder if you were to add an exception (Avast UI >  for your bank
I also wonder how they would get on with browser add-ons such as uBlock Origin and uMatrix (to block trackers and unwanted ads.Menu > Settings > General - Exceptions add the banks domain URL e.g. hXXps:/yourbank.com/* In the example the use of the XX in place of the tt is to prevent the dummy link being active (that would be required in the exception).  The /* after the domain is a wildcard which excludes multiple paths within the domain without having to add multiple exceptions.

See attached image example - click to expand.

I'm using Bank Mode. I tried the exception but it didn't work. The problem seems to be that Chase is not recognizing Bank Mode as a legitimate browser and keeps prompting me to download Firefox 9which I already use), Chrome, etc. I tried it with the Secure Browser, too, and got the same result.

Unfortunately I fear that you would have to take this up with Chase as even when using Chrome (and Bank Mode) it is blocking you.
Assuming the Bank Mode you mention is a Chrome browser function ?
As I don't use the 'Chrome' browser (nor am a Chase customer) I can't speak from personal experience.

By adding an exception in Avast so the Web Shield doesn't check the Chase domain that shouldn't be the reason it is blocking.

You say you have Firefox, are you able to connect to Chase using that ?

Using standard Firefox I have no problem with chase.com. Just the Bank Mode and Secure Browser.
