buzy virus update in background

Hello forum,

I'm french, so exuse my english writen.

I have an old machine, and when Avast! begin a virus definition update, all my system work slowly, and I allways wonder from where it comes. It get me nervous.

Is it possible to have an alert when avast! begin this work ?

The update processing run at low priority, using less CPU resources. There's a code in the updater that limits the CPU usage to 30% maximum, i.e., when the update is taking place, the updating process take at most 30% of the CPU (or, if you're using a dual core machine, 15%).

The manual update works at 100% as it is supposed the user really wants to update at that time.

:-[ So, my computer is an old pentium II 363MHz and 192 Mo RAM. :-[

When update process begin, I can see my system slowly works.

Is it possible to have a message when the update begining ?

Hi Laurent
You can set Avast to show an updating icon in the system tray. See attached image.
I only have this in English but I think you'll be able to translate.

Right-click on the blue "a" ball in the system tray .
Click on "Program Settings"
click "Update (Basic)", then "Details", then "Show icon in task bar tray"

While you're there. you could also increase the interval between automatic checking for updates from the default 120 minutes.
