Would like to know if you have any information on whether my suspicion that I am getting the worms and trojans thru this chat service? If so any suggestions apart from installing a firewall to prevent this?

Well, I don't think the Yahoo Messenger is dangrous per se, but what can be (of course) dengerous is it's file-transfer feature. That is, if you receive some files via the Messenger, you should make sure they are virus-free before you start working with them.

FYI, there'll be a special support for Yahoo Messenger in avast 4.1.
