Can't start Avast. Get splash screen, then nothing...
« on: March 17, 2008, 03:28:55 PM »
avast version 4.7
SBS2003 SP1
2GB RAM

When I choose "Avast! Antivirus" from the start menu I get the splash screen and the memory scanning completes.  It says that the "Program will now continue", but the splash screen goes away and no other screen appears.  Isn't it supposed to open another window after the splash screen & memory scan?

What's going on?

Thanks, Robert

Yes it is supposed to open the main window.
Is this the standalone avast! Server Edition, or the managed version? (to be used in conjunction with ADNM)

I'm asking because in the managed version, the Enhanced User Interface (which would normally start) is disabled.

Thanks

It's the managed version.  Does that mean that I HAVE to use the ADNM component to do anything/everything?

I think the ADNM console should have everything you need... is it that bad?

Not really.  I just had no idea that you HAD to use ADNM to administer the servers.  Workstations...I understand, but I didn't realize it was the same for servers.

Sorry, I'm not sure to answer you on this as I never used the server/ADNM version, just see screenshots and translate the manual...

No problem.  I think this posting has been resolved.  I now know why I can't open avast with the icon on the server...You have to use ADNM.

It really depends on you.

If you DONT want to use ADNM on a given machine, use the UNMANAGED version of avast (avast Professional or Server Edition).
If you DO want to use ADNM on a given machine, use the MANAGED version of avast (avast NetClient or NetServer Edition).

Protection-wise, the products are equivalent. The only difference is that the managed version contains the ADNM connector, and is therefore enforcing the policies defined on the management server.

Thanks
