Sad Day
« on: May 18, 2003, 11:19:47 AM »
 :'( :'( :'(
Have had to remove Avast4 as my resident antivirus and go back to using AVG.

Unfortunately Avast4 seems to conflict with ZoneAlarm Version 3.7.143 that I'm using , Windows 98

Will try Avast again at a later build/date when I have more time.
                                  Thanks Anyway

You could consider a change og FW then.
Avast & Kerio play very nice together.
With Sygate there should be no conflicts either.

There appears to be a later version of ZoneAlarm on zonelabs site.

Also, try posting your problem in this forum:
http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/security,1

This link is for a security forum on broadbandreports.com, if there is a conflict involving ZoneAlarm, someone there might have had similar problems and managed to resolve them.

What do you mean by conflict? I know several users which use avast! together with Zonealarm (not sure which version however) and have no problems at all !

Gee they are lucky I wish I was .
Previously Avast32 & a earlier version zonealarm ran alright on this computer
I'm not pointing the finger at anyone but
the system was rather unstable  and I get illegal operation messages preformed by a variety of programmes.
Had trouble booting up took 4-5 attempts to start.
An example of error message:"ZoneAlarm caused an invalid fault in module Kernel 32 at 0167 bff88396".
Removed ,via msconfig, Avast from startup.
I still use Avast quickscan as my second choice file scanner via right click .
No problemo

I am running WINME and have no problems with Avast 4 and Kerio free fire wall.  Never ran ZoneAlarm but really like Kerio.  By the way I also just made the switch from AVG to Avast.  Avast and Kerio play nice together, at least on my system.  Good luck!

I went to download ZoneAlarm and the filename was: zaSetup_37_159.exe.

I thought it was a later version than the one you had.

On the other hand, I heard version 4 of ZoneAlarm is due in either late May or early June, so maybe things will improve then.

I'm running avast 4.0.211 with Kerio 2.1.5 without any problems. I tried ZA but I didn't like it. I didn't have the control like I have in Kerio or Sygate. It also bogged my system down.

Using Avast! 4 with Outpost firewall.  No problems.  AVG sucks on my system (W98, OE5).  Causes all kinds of hangups with the OE plugin and OE.  Most people don't have this problem with OE and AVG but it isn't uncommon to hear about it.  Also, AVG email scanner seems to scan the entire email folder almost everytime I go back to it.  I think that is sort of lame.  I uninstalled AVG and opted for Avast simply because it is more stable on my machine.
