I think David would agree that you are now set up as he was recommending.

Remember to set the sensitivity level in the Internet Mail handler to High to ensure the level of protection that David was recommending.  This will not consume more resources on your system but it will mean that should spambot infection occur you will be advised.

Yes, I totally agree, provided the sensitivity is set to High you have a valuable backstop for a possible undetected spambot. As Alan said it will consume little in the way of resources as hopefully it will never have to do any scanning.

Ok I did set Internet Mail guard to high. The odd thing is that I never ever get spam using Yahoo. But its also an AT&T yahoo email address.

To ATT Yahoo SSL mail see: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=14854.msg238394#msg238394

No Tech your completely misunderstanding me. I do not use Outlook or Thunderbird. I only check my mail by going to Yahoo.com and logging in. Web based email is alot safer then POP3 any day.

Not really if you don't have a good http scanner... it could be worse as a single click could infect you...

ashMaiSv.exe is the Internet Mail scanner.

We have already recommended to you to keep it going.

Ok I did set Internet Mail guard to high. The odd thing is that I never ever get spam using Yahoo. But its also an AT&T yahoo email address.

What we are suggesting has nothing to do with 'receiving' spam, avast isn't an anti-spam application. We are talking about spam being sent from 'your' computer without your knowledge.

As I said if an undetected or hidden trojan is on your system that comes with its own smtp program it can send email spam without having to rely on your having an email application. The avast Internet Mail provider can detect multiple identical email in a period of time (if the sensitivity is at High). So it can alert you to this undetected trojan infection even though it hasn't detected the trojan with the normal scanners. Then we can take steps to find what is sending the spam and deal with it..
