Updates Expiration
« on: April 12, 2008, 12:38:02 PM »
My updates expiration expires on 01st Feburay 2009.

What do I need to do after this date?

Do I have to register again to get a completely new licence key?

 :)

I take it will be a diffeerent licence key from the last one. Of course I won't need to worry till next year.

Yes will or there would be no point in doing it.

If you try very early it will check the email you gave and reissue the old but valid key, if you use a different email that you hadn't used before you would get a new key. There are three options as to why you need a new key. I always choose the last, number 3, and existing user with expired key or wording to that effect and you would get a new key even if you did it after a few months.

Avast team sent me a new licence key after completing the 3rd option of the registration form.

Unfortunately this key is invalid. Tried both cut/paste and entering key manually.

Any help would be appreciated

Very strange, I hope someone in the know will be able to help you.

By the way are you able to give more details on which version of Avast you are using and operating system etc.

It is the 4.8 Home edition

At first I tried to update the key by : right click on avast icon --> About Avast --> Licence key

Then I unistalled Avast, downloaded Avast : same result

Are you using 4.8.1169 or the latest pre-release 4.8.1178?
In the 1st case you can try to use update http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34612.msg290254#msg290254
In updated version some Registration problems were solved.

I doubt that the system date being incorrect would result in an invalid key error, but it would be accepted as a valid key and then announced as out of date ?

I think the invalid key error will appear... but I could be wrong.

It is 4.8.1169. The time settings are correct.

I'm running under Windows XP.

I suggest you try the pre-release beta version mentioned by psw in reply #8 with a link to instructions and the file to do the conversion to beta. That may resolve the invalid key issue.

So come February when the updates expire all I would require to do is register again and input the new key? no need to re-install the whole Avast program again?
