Need some advice.
« on: June 28, 2008, 08:08:12 PM »
I tried posting about some weird entries I get every so often in my warning and error boxes, but the post doesn't show. I tried to attach a text with the list, keep getting a warning..too big.

These errors only show up maybe once a month, but have no idea what they mean. Sent it to a friend who uses Avast as well, he can't figure it out either. Both times they showed up, I did a scan, it comes back clean. Can someone help me figure out how to post or send the text document for someone to see and maybe figure it out?

I run XP Pro with SP3, and have DSL connection, and also run Spywareblaster. I run Avast free, love it, just wish to figure out these weird entries. Thank you in advance. I'm a newbie, so if this is in the wrong place, please excuse me.   :-[

Thank you in advance.

Personally I don't go nosing around in the avast or windows event logs unless I'm experiencing a problem (one that is displayed to the screen).

Copy and paste 'a few' of the common messages rather than try to post them all.

Under what section were these messages, if they are Info or Notice, basically I would ignore them ad they aren't truly an error. Much of what is in the logs is verbose, which is of more use to the developers if they are trying to fault find (one more reason why I keep out ;D).

Hi DaveR....I tried to copy and paste, but it won't let me. When I right click on any line, it just wants me to export things. Last time this happened, we just deleted everything, and all was fine till it logged stuff from yesterday. Just didn't know if I have something optioned off wrong, or what?

The stuff is all in both error box, and warning box. At first we thought my old AVG hadn't been totally removed, but checked, it is not there. Except for these silly entries, all seems to be working fine. It says my stuff is all up to date in the notice box. I don't run alot of stuff, like Vista, or WD, just a normal Firewall, Avast, and Spywareblaster. I only use IE6, not ready to get into 7 yet, like I said, I like things simple.  ;D

Have no idea how I would copy just a few lines, but as you said, maybe I should keep my nose out of the boxes, and leave well enough alone. Unless I try to do one text box at a time, maybe it wouldn't be as big.?

Oh well, thank you very much for answering, and if you, or anyone else has any other suggestions, they are more then welcome from me. It just seemed to me from reading it, that something tried to scan, but couldn't. I have Avast marked that I am always connected, and from the time frame of the lines, it all happened while I was online, till I shut this down about 12:25 a.m.

Thanks again, much appreciated. Have a fine day, and stay cool.   :)

Well DUH, if I open the text file I can copy and past a few lines.   :-[ Guess all this heat and humidity has my brain fried. Here is a small list of how it starts off. I put "My Name" where it was showing my "real" name. Maybe someone can make some sense out of this. As I said, these appear in the warning and error boxes, the notice box is just a list of all my updates.      Thank you again.   :)

well if the location is the same for the majority of these, C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\_avast4_\unp32269722.tmp, this is where avast unpacks archive files so they can be scanned, the unpacked file take the unpNNNNN.tmp (where NNNNN is a numeric value) file name. Since it also involves the Web Shield (that is what is scanning the internet content) in the avast temp location, I'm at a loss as to what this might be.

Having a google around for the error number returns many hits and one in the orums by one of the Alwil team

Quote from: Igor
A413 means "Unwanted exception" - which may have many possible reasons.
I see Bob's post found the same quote.

Unfortunately something like an unwanted exception could be many things and difficult to pin down.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

Thanks David and Bob.

David, I did a repair, so will see how it goes. I just got home, and when I turned on the computer, it updated the viruses, and so far, I see no entries for today in the error or warning boxes. This is what happened last time, it recorded one day of stuff, then it was fine for a month. Oh well, if there is any other findings, I'll be back for more advice.   ;D

Keep your fingers crossed the repair might have worked, as after it did the repair, it said the program was updated? Again, I thank all for the help, it was appreciated.     :)
