problem with home network
« on: August 12, 2008, 05:14:23 PM »
So I installed AVAST 4.8.1229 yesterday and my computer has been tweaked to run fine with it but i'm on a home network with 5 diff. machines all running XP and none of the other computers can connect to me anymore. My computer is the only one running AVAST tho. They were all connecting fine before the install. Full sharing is enabled.
Any ideas how to unblock my computer to my network?
Thanks

This is not really an avast problem but just the fact that when you install enough software (like avast) you can run out of a resource in the Windows operating system.

well i took the advice and added the entry into regedit exactly as it says.
i've tried for the last 2 hrs  changing the numbers and it still won't connect.

what else can i do? i mean it was working fine before i put AVAST on.

Is there an error in the Windows event log?  What is the error message you are seeing when you you try to connect?

the error log message: The server's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small for the server to use a local device.  Please increase the value of this parameter.

so i created the registery on this box and one other to check the connection.
---------------------
the error message from the other computers says:
“[PC/Folder name] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator to see if you have access. The network path was not found.

the only other thing i've tried is to turn off the windows firewall since i'm behind a router and a switch and have AVAST on fully and i can actually see the drives now. so the big question now is am i safe?
do i need to have the windows firewall on?

thanks for the help btw.
