New Version of AVAST ?
« on: April 13, 2004, 01:28:21 AM »
I was wondering when a new version of AVAST 4 HOME/PRO will be available? The last time there was program component upgrade it was to 4.1.357 and that was on Feb 27th 2004. I have heard and read things in other threads that the program is updated monthly and I know there wasn't an update in March and a new version of AVAST will be available possibly sometime in June. Any and all help would be appreciated?  Thanks again in advance.

radi,

A bit of clarification is needed before answering your question on the next version of Avast.

Avast updates its' virus database whenever necessary but is usually updated every week and sometimes more depending on the amount of new viri discovered.

The Avast PROGRAM is updated whenever its' functionality dictates.  In otherwords, if the program is suffering from a bug that is vital for correction, the update is almost immediate.  If "little" fixes are needed, then they all may be incorporated in a "new release".  It is just makes more sense to do it that way and is far more efficient in maintaining the stability of the program.

A new build is due out this week to correct a problem with boot scanning.  Not sure exactly when this week, but it should be soon.

Hope this helps you.

this would be a question for alwil team.  How often is the Engine updated? Most updates correct bugs.

I was talking about the program itself not the vps file.

shgoh,

Thank you for mentioning that again for radi.

Radi, I provided an explanation of both VPS and PROGRAM updating.

Please go back and re-read my post.

When will a new version with all the wishes and resultes of discussions here (some with the answer that this will be fixed) come out?  Is there a list of changes that are in the queue?
(I'd personally like to check if my suggestions are on it :-)

I agree with Erik, there are tons of wishes... It's near imposible to read that topic. I think we are posting faster that any other software company could answer  ;D
There are 'unsolved' problems that are constantly killed by new topics everyday (for instance, what about the icon of updating in the system tray bar?)  ;D

There are still some problems in the program that have to be resolved (mostly in the Enhanced User Interface). As soon as they are fixed, the update will be released. Sorry for the delay, but we certainly won't release a buggy version...
