Very first Build of web site
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:37:31 PM »
Hello

I'm attaching the very first build of the Index.html of my web site. Please don't flame it to bad as I'm new to building web sites so any comments and idea's would be greatly appreciated by anyone. The file is in a .jpg because the Avast! forums wont allow .html and please excuse the Norton at the bottom the subscription by my dad still has not run out but the more I use it the more annoyed I get  >:( im thinking im just going to un-install it and install Avast! so I can stand using the Computer again, oh well.

Thanks,
Justin

P.S I'm building this website using the Free Dreamweaver Alternative Kompozer based off the Nvu engine

I like the look so far, Justin.  It looks serious and professional; presumably links to sites will add color, and you could use some color to draw attention to important information.  As a person who is not particularly computer savvy, I am more likely to start looking for information on a website that does not appear too complicated or intimidating, but a site that looks unprofessional (randomly assembled, too much color for no particular reason, and so forth) won't get more than a quick glance.

I have a question to go along with my last post, What is a good Antivirus for on my USB drive? because I plug it into alot of computers and am well aware of how USB worms and such spread through USB drives. Now I know theres the Avast! U3 utility but my Drive isnt a U3 and am to low on cash right now to buy another one so what is a alternative option?

What is a good Antivirus for on my USB drive?
Set USB VirusScan
http://blog.didierstevens.com/programs/usbvirusscan/

For me:
"<path>\USBVirusScan.exe" -c -i "<path>\ashQuick.exe" j:
Where j: is the drive letter I receive when I insert the USB stick.

Im dropping the A-bomb on Norton  >:( I was just spending some time working on my Website when I noticed more than Considerate System slowdown so when I checked task manager I noticed many new tasks openining up by the Name of "LuCallBackProxy" so after some extremely slow Googling there all from Norton one of them taking up as much as 100m!!! I might sound bad saying this but that type of system usage is Totally unacceptable exspecially on a system such as this with only 248mb of Ram and countless other "Hungry" processes running. Right now I just want to completely Nuke the Hell (pardon my language) out of it.

Sorry if this was a rant, Just had to say something about the crap program

Hi Justin...

"Receive" is spelled incorrectly in your message. :)

Otherwise, it's a good start. You know more about HTML than I do from the looks of it. My (temporary) page is just a white background, a couple gif's and black lettering. ;D

Best Regards...

Lol Ardvark thanks for the compliment  :)
I do know some HTML enough to create a web page but with how bad I am
it would take me months just to get the Index page finished so Im kind of cheating
using Kompozer a nice little freebie that IMHO is better then Dreamweaver.

I used to clean up a friends sloppy dreamweaver coding using a little program called HTMLKit which is free. I don't know if it is still available now.

There was a validation process which helps ensure that the coding conforms to wc3 standards and that should mean that it is compatible with more browsers. Some of the old dreamweaver code used proprietary html tags that wouldn't display right in some browsers.
