Windows accounts avast problem
« on: October 11, 2008, 07:28:17 PM »
On my brothers laptop he has 3 admin accounts (not the best thing to do I know) and when the laptop boots up it can take a while, this results in certain icons (random each time) not displaying in the notifications area of the task bar and logs of errors saying that webshield failed to start within 3000 milliseconds of booting up (although when I check it seems to be running ???).  Is there some reason why this happens and how can I try and remedy it?

ps I have ran avast repair and the problem persists, I have tried to reduce the amount of boot up programs but the laptop is still very slow to start

O/S windows xp sp2

Yeah... having more than one admin account is not a good practice.
Which other security programs are running? Any Internet filter? Firewall?

Sorry for the delay

I have Comodo Firewall V2.4 and no internet filters as far as I can remember

Hmmm... maybe some bad interaction between avast and Comodo...
Why haven't you updated Comodo to version 3?
If you uninstall Comodo (and enable windows firewall) for a while, will it solve the issue?

the problem cant be between comodo and avast as they have run fine on every other system I have had perhaps its the fact it has not so great memory and boot up is swamped with programs

V3 is still too buggy for my liking although it would be great if I could get it installed

Try uninstalling/installing again then... maybe any glitch left behind...
Do the other computers have more than one admin account?

No they didnt, I think that with each account being made at different times, plus the fact they are all admin accounts has some how messed up the services or something on the computer, I would be interested as to whether the Alwil team had ever encountered this with their computers

I can't speak for Alwil... but I've read this problem here in forums a lot of times...
