Anti Rootkit
« on: December 29, 2008, 01:32:10 PM »
Hello,
I installed 'Panda Anti Rootkit 1.08.00' in my laptop (OS:Windows XP SP2).
But it couldn't run.
I have Avast AV 4.8 (free edition) and Advanced System Care Pro 3.1.1.
Any suggetions will be deeply appreciated.
I am novice in terms of computer technical knowledge :(.
regards,
Thank you all

What firewall are you using ? My firewall blocks all anti rootkit programs, until I allow.

What is the error message?
Panda antirootkit is an on-demand only tool, and it shouldn't be affected by avast or ASC...
Are you logged as an administrator or in a limited user account in this computer?

@Tech: Thank you for replying. Its my personal laptop, I log in as administrator. After I start scan, Panda could scan 23% of Registry and then couldn't do more. I am attaching the screen if it helps.
@Micky77:Thank you for replying.I use windows firewall.

Hi...

Unless specifically configured, Windows firewall doesn't scan any outbound traffic, so this probably isn't your problem. Do you get any error messages with these rootkit scanners out of curiousity?

Seems indeed that Panda is crashing. Sorry, I'm far from being an expert on Panda.
Maybe you could try other antirootkits: http://www.antirootkit.com/software/index.htm

IMHO, Outbound traffic scanning isn't available in windows XP
The outbound scanning feature became available with Windows Vista.
