Hi Shigoh...yes it appears you are wrong .....it does neither of those things.   It actually does nothing and the settings are reset on restart.  

That would be the first time I've seen a TSR icon referred to as a Balloon but maybe you are right....    If you had actually tested this you would know it does neither of the above.

[iAVS],  RunningMode and Progress are not a part of the Avast4.ini file in Avast Version 4.1 Home Edition.   Are you using Home Edition  This question is still hanging in the air because my solution didn't work and yours led me up the garden path to nonexistant properties.   Do any Alwil employees frequent this list?  Any ideas?

yes...i'm using home edition...but i have the RunningMode and Progress in my avast.ini

I think you can have 'all' values in your avast4.ini file but the program will consider only the ones related to your specific version: home or pro  
The others won't affect the behavior of the application.

 :oSheesh, this has gotten deep.  It's way over my head already, as I just want to work on putting up my website rather than psych out Avast. I havn't had time to follow the instructions I printed out. But you guys are really nice and really do try to help.  I'm putting your site on my list to read more when I have time. Now I know why Avast is perfect for me.  I don't take any sugar in my coffee.
The fact that it has gotten rid of all the viruses that NAV left behind has nothing at all to do with it.

Well, I like sugar in mine, Cap'n, but don't need someone to come up and ask me ten times over in one morning if i would like a better sugar. or keep reminding me that they have done it as directed.
