Avast and Outlook Express

Hi.

I use Outlook Express to check my mails.
May problem is, that avast don't check my incoming and outgoinig mails.
the provider, which is used for email protection isn't running and i can't start it. I  ran the email wizard and avast knew all my smtp & pop3 server but the provider for email isn't working.

Can somebody help me, please.

What provider is not running?
If you refer to the "Outlook/Exchange" provider, then it is not used to protect your e-mail. This provider protects the full Microsoft Outlook. Outlook Express, however, is handled by the Internet Mail provider.

Thanks for this clarification. I'm brand new to Avast after years of NAV. I'm often confused by your terminology.

Examples: In "Settings>UpdateConnections" one choice is "My computer is permanently connected to Internet." Maybe it should be clear since the other choice is "dial-up modem," but I've never heard broadband described as "permanent" before.

It also seems strange to find this "Connection Question" under the rubric "Update..." Wouldn't this be more clear: "Type of Internet Connection--a) dial-up? b) broadband (cable/DSL)?"

Another one that baffled me at first was: "Schedule Boot-Time Scan." The expression "Boot-Time" is unusual. If it said "Scan When System Boots? Yes. No. (check mark) That would be clear--to me at least.

I understand that you're working in a second, third, or maybe tenth language--plus the problem of techno-speak. It is difficult.

But it seems you have a great program.  It would be a shame to lose part of the large American market for lack of better translation.

We here in America may be especially spoiled about this since we're so used to getting it our way without having to struggle with translation.

Of course by the time you get such a thing done I'll hopefully understand this program inside out and won't need it. Such is life.

OK, a little explanation maybe...
The connection type is in the "Updates" section because that's the affected thing (updates). The configuration of the connection is done so that avast! knows how the updates should be performed (or rather detected). For the other functions, avast! doesn't care what connection you have.

As for the boot-time scan... I would call it the "feature name". Boot-time scanner is a special module (I think no other antivirus has it, though I may be wrong) that performs the scan before the operating system is fully loaded. In certain sense, it's different from the usual scanning (it has limited features, but on the other hand, it's more "powerful" because of the moment it's executed at).
You are right that your description may be somehow better, but this "feature name" would be somewhere else anyway.... maybe some additional explanation in the message window would be the best.
