Did you disable the UAC in Vista for the install?
Do (or did) you have any other AV installed prior to Avast, and which one?
For info, images (up to a certain size) can be uploaded direct to the forum. Click "additional options" when posting to upload an image.

No, I did not have any av installed.

I installed Avast just a few days ago 
Laptop - Vista Home Premium
I didn't disable UAC to install Avast .. & .. Avast installed just fine.
However!
I have a hunch that with -
Vista .. Avast probably has to be installed from an Administrator's side of a computer.
Maybe even the -
Main Administrator
