I have 2 programs in the Chest File that I scanned...and there was no virus. How do I remove them from the Chest File.  If I click delete, does that delete the program or file?

What are the names of the files?

"Delete" deletes the file from the Chest, nothing else. However, if you moved the files to the Chest previously, they were deleted from their original location at that moment.

What is the best procedure and option when getting a virus warning.  Should you move it to the chest...or delete it?  

Can an important and needed program be deleted entirely by moving to the chest?

Hi,
1): deny acces, or move it to chest,
then inform yourself about the proper removal procedure for the specific virus/malware; use virusinfos below, on avast home page, google, or board-search
This is usually  best done BEFORE rebooting; cause WIN might not start properly if you did something wrong

2) yes, especially if you delete it from the Chest or reboot

Call me stupid, but Avast has to be the most confusing anti-virus program on the market.   >:(

(1) The following files have no virus...when I ran a scan...They appear on both my System File and Chest File

Command.com   Windows ME
Kernel32.dll  
wsock32.dll

Do I remove them from the Chest?  If so, does that delete them permanently?

Lastly, WHY is this whole process been such a horrible experience for me....

The instructions SUCK ! I'm really not a stupid person!
How is this program any better than Norton....which I used all the time prior to Avast?

Sorry I have to vent!

winstock32.dll

are listed in my Chest Files All and System Files ....I never put these files in here and do not remeber even scanning them .... Should I just leave things alone.. I am running XP Pro

These 3 files are fairly critical system files -- avast! puts copies of them into the Chest not because they're infected, but so you'll have backup copies available if needed.  So definitely just leave them there.

Without those files, you would never be able to connect to the internet.

 :o Oh My Goodness ...Then I will leave alone ....I just did a scan and included my archives and it came up with this many files unabled to scan 792 ...is this normal

It depends on why the files were unable to scan and what files were they...
Some programs (anti-spyware, etc) store their data as password-protected ZIP archives; in that case, avast! is unable to scan their content - so it's normal.
If you post an example of the files that cannot be scanned (the filenames, I mean), we can say more.
