Adobe AIR and Adobe.com
« on: March 24, 2009, 07:08:06 PM »
Dear Forum,

Can I uninstall Adobe AIR and adobe.com from the add or remove programs list without adversely affecting my computer or Adobe Reader?

I installed Adobe Reader, as much as I loathe the program, and it automatically installed these other rubbish programs mentioned above.

I am running Window$ XP with SP3 and also Foxit Reader.

Ideally I would just like to have Adobe Reader without any other unnecessary junk or bloatware from them.

Thanks,

Avastfan1

I uninstall adobe AIR and adobe.com on all machines that have reader, and I haven't had any problems yet.

As far as I can tell, adobe.com is just a shortcut to their website (who needs that, seriously?) and adobe AIR is:
Quote
FOR DEVELOPERS

The Adobe® AIR™ runtime lets developers use proven web technologies to build rich Internet applications that run outside the browser on multiple operating systems.

What type of developer are you?

So unless you're a developer, I'd say it's completely safe to remove.

Hi Scythe944,

Thanks for the reply. That expert advice confirms my suspicion of Adobe rubbish bloatware.

Will remove them!

Best wishes,

Instead of Adobe, I use Foxit Reader which is much smaller and free.

Yes, foxit reader will do fine as an alternative.

I don't know how often they update it, or whether or not it shares adobe reader's security holes, but if you want to step away from Adobe, then foxit reader is the way to go.
