I installed Avast Home Edition in my Windows XP machine back near the end of November. Everything seemed to run fine until just a few days ago, when I started getting messages on system boot that my antiviral might be out of date. When I checked yesterday I found that the virus definition file was several days old so I updated it manually, and upon closer inspection today I noticed that the "i" ball was missing from the system tray and the "a" ball was no longer rotating. I have done the definition file update manually for the last couple of days, and the Avast web site seems to think that I have the latest version of Avast Home 4.8, but I can't help the feeling that something is broken, even if Avast doesn't seem to find anything.
