Did you set the correct proxy settings into avast Program settings > Update (Connections) > Proxy ?

Does your proxy server require authentication? What kind of proxy server is it?
Manual updates run under your login account if you are administrator.
Automatic updates run under SYSTEM account and it might be denied connection by proxy server.

Hi Tech  :)

Hmmm... seems something is buggy in the proxy settings of avast an automated updates... a lot of problems recently...

Can I Ask...
Is it really necessary to change from the default Avast update settings?

Why I Ask...
On both my Laptop and Desktop .. I've never made any changes to my Avast update settings.
Just left them at the default  :-\
I don't seem to have any problems with my Automatic Updates.
So! ... I'm really reluctant to start making changes now  :-[

Thanks!   ;)

It shouldn't, the Auto Detect option should work... but, in fact, it seems not in some cases.
If it is working, don't fix, don't mess.

fumakiller, what's your proxy server? Is it linux-based squid or MS ISA Server?
ISA Server by default denies access for SYSTEM account that is used for auto-updates. In this case, you can set NTLM authentication and fill credentials with username in form DOMAIN\user.

what is linux-based squid or MS ISA Server?
i am using normal windows xp and need to use fixed IP adress and authentication to connect to internet
all of these already been done in the avast connection setting and already test it and working.
it seem that autoupdate never happen
but manual update works..
