Avast won't install.
« on: May 03, 2009, 03:09:52 AM »
Here's a copy of my log. If anyone can make sense of it, it would be much appreciated. I took out the computer identifying bits. I had previously turned off my firewall (in case that was the prob) and I tried to scrub any past installs with aswclear.exe, but I couldn't find any file folders to scrub.
Any advice is much appreciated.

It looks to me like you and I have the same problem.  I know I have a virus (or more than one).  I can not update most antivirus programs and the ones I can, always get the win32 error when running.  I fell that this program can do the trick if I can figure out how to get it to installed.  Good luck!

Some infections prevent the correct antivirus installation.
I suggest a full computer on-line scanning:
BitDefender
ESET NOD32
F-Secure

For detection-only, not cleaning:
Kaspersky
Trendmicro housecall

Whatever virus I have is very pernicious and it won't allow me to run an online scan or install an antivirus program.
Any more ideas? : (

Read the instructions, download and burn (maybe from another computer), finally use one of this rescue CD's:
1. Avira
2. Kaspersky
3. BitDefender
4. F-Secure
5. Dr. Web

Hi, I have exactly the same log and error message and have no idea why (i;m not a techie at all!)
I've run Bitdefender and have no infections. Any ideas? My problems started when i installed AVG 8.5 (upgrade from the previous version) and then had connection problems and now my antivirus programs won't update. So i've tried to download Avast instead but it won't install.
Interested to know if your PC is any better and what you did to fix it if so, any help appreciated,
thanks!

Choose your antivirus and uninstall all the others. More than one will conflict and remains of old installations could mess avast one.

Uninstall AVG: http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallavg.shtml and http://www.avg.com/download-tools
BitDefender could have a similar tool too.
