91% of all mail is spam mail
« on: May 04, 2009, 02:46:02 PM »
PandaLabs has published a report that a survey showed that during the first quarter of the year 2009 91% of all mail received consisted of spam-mail.
A mere 1,6%, or more than 1.1 million spam-mails were infected with some form of malware.

These data were beased on an analysis from TrustLayer Mail, the Panda Security Mail Service,
that checked 69 million mails during the first quarter of this year.
A mild increase of spam was discovered between the months of January and March 2009 if compared to the same period of 2008,
when 90% of all mail received was spam-mail. It might be the world-wide recession that the number of spam mails rose most advertising for "lucrative jobs".

A sad thing is that the United States still is the number one source of spam mails.

personally, myself, I got those "lucrative jobs" several times per day in my Yahoo account... the bad thing is that they come from different address and from different domain and are not able to source of them.... I just can block them one by one... not domain or...

I find gmail has pretty effective anti-spam, but notice lately there seem to be directed attacks with a burst of a few spam, then the AS gets updated and they go away again.  Yahoo is mostly spam, even with their anti-spam on, and their blocking is rather primitive.
