How does one de-install AVAST from a MAC?

How does one de-install AVAST from a MAC?  I can't quit or force quit the program without it restarting itself, and therefor I can't even have my computer restart when installing other software.   

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You're asking twice the same. Just double the help effort. There are less Mac users in forums to help than Windows ones.

First Open the avast preferences and make sure "Launch at startup as a persistent application" is not checked, uncheck if it is. Then quit the avast application and drag the program to the trash from the applications folder.
